Carving Pumpkins

Wednesday night we did our Halloween pumpkins. For the kids pumpkins we had them color theirs with markers. They mostly got the markers all over themselves (today they looked bruised, but really it is leftover marker). After they were done we put in "potato head" inspired eyes, noses, mouths, and ears. Violla the kids pumpkins:

Zack's Pumpkin

Maddie's Pumpkin

Aaden's pumpkin

All the kids' pumpkins

After the kids were done the adults got a turn. We started carving ours. Finished photo will come later (mine needs to dry). It was a lot of fun!

Halloween Coloring

On Tuesday we strapped the kids in their high chairs and put down papers. We then gave them some Halloween themed coloring pages and lots of crayons and told them to go at it. I think they had fun. We actually went out to eat for lunch earlier that day and they were coloring at Chili's. Well Maddie ate most of crayon before we realized it. So I think she really likes coloring.

State Fair Visit

Today Mike and I took the kids to the State Fair. I believe this was their first trip to the Fair since last year at this time they were just a month old. We also were accompanied by Mamaw, Papaw, Aunt Stacy and Cousin Aaden. They all did really well. It was a lot of fun!! Michael and Papaw tried the Krispy Kreme Bacon Cheeseburger (I'm still squimishing at the thought). I think they said they thought it was pretty good. The kids loved seeing all the animals. I liked the NC Ag exhibits (free samples of NC products). There were some really fun exhibits, some really great food (aside from deep fried doughnut burgers) and lots of cute farm animals.

It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Nowell

Saturday afternoon the whole family went out to Fisher Farms in Rocky Mount to pick out our pumpkins. They had pumpkins set out and they had a lot of farm animals all around as well. There were cows, horses, sheep, goats, chickens, pigs and donkeys. I think the kids really enjoyed it. Aaden loved the donkey! I think the donkey even gave Aaden a kiss. Maddie liked the pumpkin patch the best. Well really she liked the straw that it was on. She kept trying to pick up the straw and trying to eat it. I think Zack liked the colors of the pumpkins and then he also loved running around by himself. He thought he was big stuff running around by himself.

FINISHED!!

Today Mike and I ran an organized 5K event. My official first organized run. We ran the Camp Willow Run 5K. My biggest complaint??? HILLS!!!! This was my 4th 5K run in two weeks, but the previous ones were on a nice flat track. I really struggled on the hills today, but we had three goals today. 1.) Finish 2.) Do not walk 3.) Finish under 40 min. And we completed all of these goals. I was super happy about it. I'm actually planning on running in another 5K on the 20th in Wake Forrest. I think for the upcoming race I'm going to try and start practicing on hills. Thanks honey for running with me today and cheering me on, LOVE YOU!!!!

Birthday Shout Out!!

Happy Birthday Pop!!

10-8-10 Weekend

On Friday the 8th I loaded up the kids and headed to A'boro. Aunt Stacy and cousin Aaden got a chance to come up from GA so we spent the day with them. On Saturday we had a VERY special visit from the Rhymer's and from Grammy. All of us ladies and the kids (5 adults and 5 kids) went to the zoo, while the Michaels went to the UNC vs. Clemson game and my dad was helping out with our youth group fundraiser. For the most part everyone did REALLY well!! Callie's favorite parts was the geysers and Sea Lions. I know Aaden loved the bug playground and the Sea Lions. While Maddie and Zack also loved the Sea Lion (He kept swimming by the window and they all got excited every time he went by). After the zoo we all went out to eat at Sagebrush and we were joined by Papaw. Again, everyone was on their best behavior and most everyone didn't have much naps or any at all so we were all pleasantly surprised. After we got back to house we got the kiddos ready for bed.

On Sunday, the Rhymers and Gram left early in the morning. After church we came back to the house to eat lunch and then we went to a birthday party for a friend of Aaden's, she turned 2 and had a Veggie Tale themed birthday party. It was so cute!! After the party we headed back to mom's. After dinner, Stacy and I took on the task of making Halloween costumes for Aaden and Zack. A few months ago (July to be exact), my mom went to WeeRuns event and found a Tinkerbell costume for Maddie so I decided to have Tinkerbell and Peter Pan costumes for the kids. Over the last few weeks I have been looking for Peter Pan costumes for toddlers and have discovered that the cheapest was $60. (I'm sorry, I think that is a ridiculous price for a costume to be worn once!) So I looked up some ideas on how to make it. While this was going on Stacy had been looking into costumes for Aaden, she wants him to be Bam-Bam. I decided that we were going to attempt both of these costumes. We went and bought the fabric Friday night and we started on them Sunday. I got everything pinned before church and then around 5:30pm we found mom's sewing machine and went to town. I had never made anything to this magnitude. Other than making a tale for my skunk costume I haven't really ever sewed. So to say this was a large task was an understatement. Well...at 11pm we got everything completed. I am going to make some treat bags to match all of their costumes when I go back, but the actual costumes are all done. I sewed everything on Aaden's costume while Stacy hot glued all the black triangles. Then I sewed Zack's pants, top, belt, fake sword, and hat. I can't wait to show off the pictures. Then on Monday we loaded everything back up and headed home. It was great to see everyone and fun to have such a full house!!

10-1-10 Weekend

My blog's title is The Hectic life of the Nowell's for a reason! It has been so hectic here that I haven't had a single chance to update the blog in ages. I sincerely apologize for going missing from the bloggesphere. So after my announcement we have had appraisers, inspectors, real estate agents constantly here at the house (due to the moving package we have w/ BB&T we are required to get 2 of everything so it really has been crazy here). We officially have the house up for sale now so if you know of anyone looking for a house in Roanoke Rapids, let us know!! (By the way having a house for sale with two 1 year olds is hard!!) The weekend of the 1st of October we headed to A'boro on Friday. On Saturday Mamaw, Papaw, and Aunt Sharon watched the kids while Mike and I headed to Mooresville to scope out houses. We came back that night to play games with Auntie Crystal, Uncle Dean, Mamaw, and Papaw.

On Sunday we all went to church and then afterwards we hit the Asheboro Fall Festival for some lunch. We had the most amazing BBQ!! It was so good. We walked around for a little bit and then we went back to Mamaw and Papaw's for a nap. While the kids were napping Mike and I got ready to go to a wedding. (A good high school friend, Tara, got married on the 3rd.) After the actual ceremony Michael had to get back home, so he left me all alone for the reception, which wasn't too bad because Auntie Crystal and Ashley were husbandless too (Dean had to work and Ashley's husband was with his daughters). It was so much fun catching up with all of them. Another friend, Katie, was there with her fiance. They are getting married at the end of the month, so you will hear more about them later. After the wedding I headed back to mom's to see the kiddos and help get them to bed. We came back home on Monday.

Thank you Mamaw and Papaw for watching the kids!! We love you!!
