bugs, costumes, hospital, and Halloween

So last weekend went a lot different than we had planned. Thursday (10/28) night Zack, Maddie, Aaden and Stacy all came down with the stomach bug or as some know it as the stomach flu. It was an AWFUL night! Those four were vomiting left and right. We went through almost every one of mamaw and papaw's towels trying to keep cleaning it all up. At one point I had Maddie and Zack in my lap and they took turns throwing up on me. However, towards 10pm that night Zack and Aaden seemed to be feeling better. They were holding down Pedialite and running around playing. However, poor Maddie was struggling holding down anything. She couldn't even hold down drink. Eventually though we all went to bed. On Friday everyone seemed to be doing better. They all seemed to be feeling just fine. Other than not wanting to eat much, they seemed to be back to their normal selves. They were all playing like normal. So Stacy and I decided to dress the kiddos up and take them to Mamaw's work to show them off.

My little Peter Pan and Tinkerbell were just too cute. Also my nephew Bam-Bam was hamming it up! Tinker didn't really want to let mommy go much (until she got out of her costume then she was all about running around). After trick-or-treating a bit (just going to a few offices around mamaw) we took papaw out to dinner for his birthday. We all went to Mayflower since papaw loves fish. That was quite the experience. We have reached the wonderful stage of independence, so mom can't help feed the kids at all, especially with a spoon. They want to feed themselves only. So it ends up everywhere. I end up fighting with them to try and get any food into their mouths. Maddie didn't end up eating much. She ate some applesauce but that was about it. After we got back to mamaw's and papaw's we made some Halloween cupcakes. Eventually Daddy got there. Maddie and Zack played with daddy for a while before it was time to put them to bed. We did notice that Maddie refused to drink much, but we didn't really worry about it too much b/c sometimes she has those spells.

The next day Mike and I were up early because we were getting our car ready for a trip to Chapel Hill and Durham. Before we left we got to see the kids for a few minutes. Maddie was extremely clingy, but again didn't think much of it, b/c she is like that a lot. Around 8am Crystal, Dean and Mike and I left. We first went to Chapel Hill to meet some friends for brunch. It was UNC's homecoming so we had our friends that live in NYC come down (who we haven't seen in 3 or 4 years) and the Troutman's meet us at Breadman's. After breakfast we headed to Durham for a wedding. We checked into our hotel around 1pm. Shortly thereafter I got a call from Mamaw. She had told me that Maddie was not eating and extremely lethargic. She wouldn't even sit up. So I called the pediatrician on call and she told me it wouldn't hurt to be seen by urgent care. So Mamaw took her to Urgent Care in Asheboro. Meanwhile I had to find a fax to fax over insurance information. Then after a couple of hours I received another call saying that they were heading to the hospital b/c Urgent Care didn't have any equipment for a small toddler. At first we were told not to worry that it shouldn't take very long. So Mike, Crystal, Dean and I headed to the wedding. Right after the wedding ceremony I called Mamaw and she told me that it has been horrible. Maddie started vomiting violently again. Then she had a tramatic experience trying to get an IV in (since she was so dehydrated they couldn't get to her veins). Since she was so bad off they were going to admit her overnight. That was when Mike and I decided to head back to Asheboro, leaving poor Crystal and Dean to go to the reception alone. After we got to the hospital Maddie immediately hopped in my arms and the doctor came to talk to us. He was telling us that she would probably be staying for at least 2 nights.

Meanwhile we were at the hospital, Papaw and Stacy took Zack and Aaden Trick-or-Treating. They said Zack wanted to do everything cousin Aaden did so they had a good time. The only complaint was Zack (in his independence faze) wants to walk everywhere but doesn't want to hold your hand, so he might have had some breakdowns. They got a lot of candy though and seemed to have a very fun time.

Pics to come...
